Messages: Overview

Contents

Messages are the simplest Timeline element in Dado. They are used for simple communication needs and unlike Tasks, expect no action from the recipient.

The Message Editor

To create a new Message, click or drag anywhere on the timeline and select "Message" from the options. The Message Editor will appear. The Message Editor has 3 sections:

  • Left side: in this section, define settings that relate to the Message as a whole, for example who receives it, at what time and via which channel.
  • Middle: a preview of the Message email and reminders that participants will receive.
  • Right side: this section shows you the different kinds of Content Blocks you can use to customise your Message. To add these, simply drag and drop them into the middle section, where the Message preview is shown. For more details, see the article Content Blocks

A Message can only include Content Blocks and a Task List

Task List

The Task List is a special feature only present in Messages. It allows you to include a dynamic list of the Tasks from the Experience. You can choose show Tasks based on their starting date:

  • starting on the day the Message is sent
  • starting in the next 7 days from when the Message is sent
  • starting in the next 30 days from when the Message is sent
  • all future Tasks starting after the Message is sent

If you choose to include Tasks that have not yet started, these will be shown marked as "Upcoming" in the Task List.

Batching is controlled by Task List settings

If you turn on 'Include Task List' for a Message, you activate a batching system for Task start notifications.

A separate notification will not be sent for any Task with the same start date as the Message send date.  These Tasks will be included in this Message, and no other email/instant messages will be sent to announce the start of the Task. Reminders will still be sent separately, based on the individual Task settings.

Separate notifications will still be sent for Tasks with later start dates – even Tasks that appear in this Message's Task List as "Upcoming".
