Importing recipients for your Moment

To be able to send a Moment, you need some recipients in your Dado account. For Moments accounts, you add these recipients via CSV import. Follow the instructions below and you'll be ready to send in no time!

Restrictions on who you can send Moments to

Moments is designed to be an internal communications tool. To ensure this is how it's used, you will only be permitted to send Moments to email addresses with the same domain as the address you used to register. For instance, if you registered with the address Ali@acmecorp.com, you can only send Moments to email addresses ending @acmecorp.com.

If your organization uses multiple email domains (eg acmecorp.com and acmecorp.eu), please contact support on help@dadohr.com to request an additional domain be added to your account.

Importing employees for the first time

1. Prepare your employee data in a CSV

Dado Moments currently can only accept employee data in CSV format.

We recommend you start by downloading a template CSV, which you can find as follows:

  • Click on Employees in the top navigation
  • In the centre of the page, you'll see a link to Download CSV Template. Click this.

Mandatory fields

You must include the following fields in your CSV for every employee you wish to import:

  • Work Email
  • First Name
  • Last Name

Optional fields

As well as the mandatory fields, you can include any other data in your import. To add a new optional field, just add a new column to your import. Choose the column header carefully, as this will be the field name in Dado.

Additional optional fields are useful because they enable you to customize the content of your Moment. For instance, you can use this data to target content so that different locations or departments receive different versions. Alternatively you can include the data from these fields in the content of your Moment – for instance, inserting an employee's department or manager's name.

For more on this, see our article on Personalizing Moment content for different recipients

2. Upload the CSV

  • Click on Employees in the top navigation
  • Click on the 'Import employee data' in the top right
  • The first step of the import process enables you to download a template CSV. If you've already prepared your CSV, you can click 'Next' immediately and move on to the next step
  • On the second screen, click the 'Upload CSV' button and select the CSV you prepared earlier.
  • Once the CSV has successfully uploaded, the 'Review' button in the bottom right will become active. Click this button.

3. Address any errors

  • If there are any issues with the data in your CSV, they will now be displayed
  • Resolve any errors by amending your CSV
  • Re-upload your CSV, by clicking 'Replace CSV'

4. Complete the import

When you upload a CSV with no errors, Dado will automatically add those employees and all their data to your account.

As soon as they're uploaded, you are able to use this data in Moments content or to create Audiences; and send Moments to these employees.

Importing additional employees after your first import

If you already have some employees, but wish to import more into your Moments account, the process is very similar to your first ever import.

1. Prepare your employee data in a CSV

  • Click on Employees in the top nav, and then the Import Employee Data button in the top right
  • This screen will give you an option to download a CSV of the previously imported data. We recommend you do so, to ensure your data is in the correct format
  • Add additional rows to this CSV for new employees.
  • You can also add additional columns if you wish to add extra data fields.
    • Choose the column names for these carefully, as the column name will be used for the data field name in Dado
    • You do not need to have data in a column for every employee; it's ok to leave some cells blank.
  • Once you've finished adding to the CSV, save the changes you've made (also in .csv format)

2. Upload the CSV

  • Click on Employees in the top navigation
  • Click on the 'Import employee data' in the top right
  • Skip past the first step of the import process (where you can download a CSV of previously imported data) by clicking the 'Next' button in the bottom right.

When you upload a CSV with no errors, Dado will automatically add those additional employees/data to your account.
As soon as they're uploaded, you are able to use this data in Moments content or to create Audiences; and send Moments to these employees.

Importing extra data for existing employees

Adding extra data for employees you've already added to your Moments account follows a similar process to importing new employees.

  • This screen will give you an option to download a CSV of the previously imported data. We recommend you do so, to ensure your data is in the correct format
  • Add an additional column for each new data field you wish to add
    • Choose the column names for these carefully, as the column name will be used for the data field name in Dado
    • You do not need to have data in a column for every employee; it's ok to leave some cells blank.
  • Once you've finished adding to the CSV, save the changes you've made (also in .csv format)

2. Upload the CSV

  • Click on Employees in the top navigation
  • Click on the 'Import employee data' in the top right
  • Skip past the first step of the import process (where you can download a CSV of previously imported data) by clicking the 'Next' button in the bottom right.

When you upload a CSV with no errors, Dado will automatically add those additional employees/data to your account.
As soon as they're uploaded, you are able to use this data in Moments content or to create Audiences; and send Moments to these employees.

Resolving import errors

Date format errors

Any dates included in your CSV must match the format shown on the General Settings page. For instance, if your date format is MM/DD/YYYY, the start of December should be formatted 12/01/2023.
When a date format error occurs you have the choice of either
  • changing the date format in your CSV and re-starting the upload process
  • amending your account's date format. This can be done by clicking on Settings in the top nav.
