Trigger a manual import into Dado
If you're importing into Dado for the first time, please see our dedicated how-to on running your first import
Dado can automatically pull data from your Import Sources daily, weekly or every 3 hours – but it's also possible to trigger an import at any time. We refer to this as a manual import.

How to do a manual import into Dado
- Go to Employees > Imports
- Click the Import now button on the top right
- A new import will appear in the list below. Wait for it to have the status "Pending" and then click on the import to see all the details
- If no changes are found in the data coming from import sources, the import will not move to "Pending" but will be immediately marked as "Applied"
- Review the proposed changes in this import
New users section: this will show you any users found in your data source who don't yet exist in Dado. If you 'Apply' this import, these users will be created.
- Changed users section: users appear here when the data Dado holds about them doesn't match what's in your Import Source. If you apply this import, the data for these users will be updated to match the Import Source
- Effects section: the creation of new users or changed data for existing users can trigger a number of 'effects' in your Experiences. These are shown as suggestions that you can reject or approve. Effects include:
- enrolling a user into an Experience. This only happens if a) the experince is set up to accept auto-enrollments and b) the user's data matches the enrollment criteria you've set on that experience
- if an existing user's Manager has changed in your Import Source, updating their in-progress Experience to reflect this change of Manager
if a key date for an existing user has changed (eg start date or termination date), updating their in-progress Experience to reflect this new date. This would include automatically moving Tasks, Messages and Automations to correspond to the new date.
- Problems section: here is where Dado identifies any issues with the data in your Import Source. Problems could include not having an email or start-date for a new user.
- Once you have reviewed the New/Changed users and approved or rejected all the Effects, you're ready to apply this import. Click the blue Apply changes button in the bottom right to do this.
- Once you click this button, all data changes in this import are saved, and all effects will be carried out immediately.
Even if you have automatic enrollments set up, you will always need to click Apply changes on a manual import, for the data changes/effects to be made.
