How to send messages to Slack channels
As well as sending Messages to individual employees and group emails, your Dado Experiences can be set up to automatically send messages to Slack channels.
This can be useful in a range of situations:
- Announcing new hires in #welcome
- Wishing team members Happy Birthday in your team or celebration channels
- Celebrating employees' anniversaries in your team or celebration channels

Step 1: Set up the Slack integration and add the Dado bot to the relevant channels
If you're already using Slack in your Dado experiences, you've already set up the integration. In case you haven't, you can find instructions here.
Be sure to add the Dado bot to the Slack channels where you want your messages to post
Step 2: Add the Slack channel to your Experience as a Supporting Actor
- Go to your Experience and click Edit on the top right of the Overview screen. Navigate to the Timeline step in the left navigation.
Above the timeline, you'll see a list of Supporting Actors. Click the "Manage" link in this section
This will open a side-bar where you see a list of existing Supporting Actors and the option to add a new one. Click this link.
- This will open a new window where you can add the details of your new actor:
- In Supporting actor type, select 'Slack Channel'
- Enter a Title, e.g. the name of the channel
- Under Channel select the channel where you want your Messages sent.
If the channel you want does not appear in this dropdown, you need to add the Dado bot to that channel.
- Click "Add supporting actor".
- You're done! The Supporting Actor is now shown above the timeline and can be assigned Messages.
Step 3: Add your message
- If you're not already on the editable Timeline page: go to your Experience and click Edit on the top right of the Overview screen. Navigate to the Timeline step in the left navigation.
Click anywhere on the Timeline. You'll be offered the choice of adding a Task, Message or Automation. Click Message. Please note that Slack Channel actors cannot be assigned Tasks.
In the left section of the Task window, click the Edit link in the Recipient and Sender section.
Select your new Supporting Actor from the options presented.
- Now you can add the content to your Message and configure the other settings, like when the Message sends.
