Target Audiences: how to add a new Audience to an existing Task/Message/Automation
Because it's so easy to iterate on your Dado Experiences, you'll often find that you want to add a new audience to existing Tasks, Messages or Automations in an already running Experience.
For instance, let's say all your staff were previously on-site, but you've just started hiring remote workers, so you need your onboarding to cater to their distinct needs.
Step 1: Add your new Target Audience
Your first step is to create the new Target Audience you want to receive this timeline item.
In some situations you don't want a new Target Audience, you just want to send the task/message/automation to the existing default Everyone or Everyone Else audiences.
If this is the case, skip to Step 2.
To create a new audience:
- Go to the Message/Task you'd like to send to just one audience. Click Edit in the Target Audiences section on the left side of the screen.
- The list of Audiences is now displayed. Note that there is always one default target audience called "Everyone else".
- To add a new audience, click "Create New Audience". The left section will now show the settings for that audience.
- Start by choosing a name and a color for this Audience
- Color: click the square to pick the preview color for this Audience. This is just for you and useful for seeing which blocks belong to which Audience. We suggest choosing something different from the colors of other Audiences on this Task/Message/Automation
- Audience Name: an internal name for the Audience. Not shown to employees.
- Now define the Audience Rules, which determine who will be part of this Audience.
- Remember these are rules that apply to the Participant in the Experience
- The rule builder works the same as the one used when selecting Participants for the Experience. See below for an example.
- To check whether your rules are capturing the employees you intended, you can click the Preview matching employees link below the rules.
- You can also define specific Completion Criteria for this Audience: how many of the assigned Sub-tasks must be completed for the task to be considered done.
- This can be helpful if, for instance, you want the assignee to either upload a file or submit information. For instance, they could upload a scan of their medical license or just provide the license number.
- Now save your new Target Audience, to avoid losing your progress. To do this, scrolldown in the left section and hit the Save button.
Step 2: Select the blocks that display for this Audience
Now it's time to select what content in this Task/Message/Automation will be shown to your new Audience.
Click Edit in the Target Audiences section on the left side of the screen.
- Click Edit in the card for the Audience you want to amend.
Below the Completion Criteria, you'll see a toggle called Show blocks hidden for this audience. Turn this on.
- The center section will now show you all the blocks in this Task/Message/Automation.
- Blocks that are currently hidden from this Audience will appear translucent or greyed out
- Blocks that are currently shown to this Audience will be shown fully opaque
- For each block/Sub-task you'd like to hide from this Audience:
- Hover over the block in the center section. You'll see the block highlighted in green, with some action buttons at the bottom.
Click Hide block
- For each block/Sub-task you'll like to make visible for this Audience
- Hover over the block/Sub-task in the center section. The block should be translucent/greyed out, which indicates it's currently hidden.
You'll see the block highlighted in green, with some action buttons at the bottom. Click Show block.
- When you have finished hiding/showing blocks, click the Save changes button in the left section.
You may need to scroll down in this section to see the Save changes button
- Now click the save button in the top right of the Task/Message/Automation.
- Finally, once you've made all your changes, save the Experience by clicking Save changes in the bottom right of the Timeline screen.
